In general we recommend to buy diamonds you like. Because it’s likely that your taste represents the current trend. And the current trend determines the price. At the moment middle-priced big diamonds are quite popular. These diamonds have currently the highest increase in value. If you buy diamonds which are popular you are on the safe side.

Today new diamond markets as India and China take mostly two categories of diamonds: cheap small diamonds for the lower middle class and large stones for the nouveau riche at these markets. There is also a huge market for large diamonds in Russia.

At the moment there is no demand for 0.5 carat diamonds, because this size isn’t popular in the new markets (China, Russia, India). But if the Indian and Chinese middle class gets to more money and discover the 0.5 carat diamonds for rings and earrings, the increase in value of this diamond size will be quite significant.
